Kevin Bowersox-Johnson, President

Kevin is the President and CEO of The Cutting Ed, Inc., an educational consultig company. He is completing his Doctorate of Education degree in Education with an emphasis in Instructional Technology and Distance Education. Kevin has served on the board of directors for another community center serving the LGBTQA community in California and is excited to be sharing that experience to help do the same in Champaign County.

Jeffrey Chandler, Secretary

Jeffrey has spent most of his recent volunteer time with the Champaign Urbana Theatre Company, serving as President for two years. Recently stepping down from that Board in June 2011, Jeffrey is excited to transfer his volunteerism and community service to the UP Center. Jeffrey chairs the Marketing Committee of the UP Center, and excited to get to work bringing the benefits of the organization to a larger portion of the community and county.

Micah Heumann, Member at Large

April 16, 2013
Micah works at Community Elements with families to support them with their communication. In addition to CE, Micah, works at the University of Illinois instructing dialogue courses on religion and politics. Micah is the Vice President of the Homestead Board which provides housing to low income families. He is an outspoken ally of the LGBTQ community and is the proud father of a transgender child.

Justin Johnson, Member at Large

Justin started off as an ambassador for the UP Center as stage persona "Leiloni Stars". Hosting and performing at Turn it UP (Apr. 2010 & Apr. 2011), Class it UP (Feb. 2011), and the PrideFest (Aug. 2010 & the upcoming fest in Aug. 2011), Justin grew close to many in the community & those who work for and with the UP Center. Living in Champaign-Urbana since 2001, a connection to the area has grown in richness, as well as a need to do more to better the lives of those near and dear to him. He intends to take this new position as an opportunity for knowledge & growth in playing a bigger role in the community.

Josh Laskowski, Member at Large

Josh Laskowski is a local radio personality and owner and operator of Eye CU Photo Booths. He moved to Champaign Urbana in 2007 after spending time in Chicago, Minneapolis/St. Paul and his hometown of Decatur, IL. Josh is very active in the community MCing various events and serving on several committees including Freedom Celebration and Sweetcorn Festival to name a few. Josh graduated from Brown College in Mendota Heights, MN in 2004 with his degree in radio broadcasting. Josh lives in Champaign and looks forward to serving on the UP Center Board.

Maggie Thomas, Vice President

Maggie is a social worker at a local, non-profit social service agency where she works with children and families involved in the child welfare system. She grew up in South Bend, Indiana, and has loved the move to the Champaign-Urbana area and the wonderful welcome of the local LGBTQ community. Maggie has many years of experience working with children and families, especially those in underserved and vulnerable communities. She has been active in many LGBTQ advocacy efforts and she is so excited to contribute to the work of The UP Center.
